GOOD MORNING SEPTEMBER

Today is the first day of September and as I write this post, I am sitting on the deck with a cool breeze welcoming the day. Ahhhhh, it is a nice break from the very hot and humid summer that we have had this year. Yet, I have very mixed feelings about the seasonal change. On one hand, the change in temperature brings a nice relief to the early mornings and evenings. On the other hand, life in the neighbor definitely has a different feel as people leave for work and the school buses roll by. The sounds are different, the weather is different even the smells are different. There is definitely a change in air.

I think most of us welcome a change especially one that feels familiar. We know that soon pumpkins and mums will show up on porches and that the sprinklers will go off less frequently. It is also around this time that we become aware of the holiday seasons. This is not always by choice, but by being bombarded with holiday-related decorations in the stores and in catalogues. Sometime this month, we will discuss whose turn it is to have Thanksgiving and where will the kids spend their Christmas vacation. My niece and I are masters at planning such events and this year I am so excited because I can participate more now that my Parkinson’s is not getting in the way.

As I have often noticed and noted, husbands and wives often see life in different perspectives. As I retrieve the storage bin marked AUTUMN from the garage, my husband is happily retrieving his fishing stuff because most importantly, September 1 is the opening day of flounder season! To each their own….season.
