Comfy Seasons
I love the change of seasons. Each season brings so many different things with it. We dress differently, decorate our homes differently and eat differently. I always think of it as nature’s way of keeping us from being in a rut. When we moved from the New York to North Carolina, it was a wonderful transition because we still experience four distinct seasons, however, the winter is less cold and shorter while the spring and summer are warmer and longer. This is the correct combination for me.
Although I truly love aspects of each season, I especially enjoy the feelings of “comfy and cozy” that autumn brings. The crispness in the air in the morning and early evening fills my lungs with refreshing air. It is particularly appreciated after a very hot and humid summer where just taking a breath was laboring. The trees are making very visual changes and fall flowers are popping up everywhere. So with the weather changing, I am switching my wardrobe from shorts and sundresses to jeans and sweaters. As I walk around the neighborhood, I pull my sweater around my neck and it feels so “comfy and cozy.”
What makes you feel comfy and cozy? For me, it is wearing comfortable clothes and sitting by a fire reading a good book. I also love the smell of freshly baked cookies, a candle burning with the light flickering, and soft music playing in the background. Cozy entails all of the senses which tells my brain to relax and appreciate the moment. We rarely say that a work environment is cozy and comfy, but we tend to think of our home as a place of refuge where we let ourselves just be ourselves.
Try to find your cozy and comfy place as often as you can. Enhance your living space to make it feel safe and comforting. Give yourself permission to “waste” away time because it really is not a waste to allow yourself the ease of just being. In this fast-paced world, it is important to stop and just be….comfy and cozy.
