The image above is a famous illustration by Norman Rockwell that I found on Pinterest. I love the simplicity of it as it reflects a moment in daily life that symbolizes such an important aspect….giving thanks.
Thanksgiving is one week from today and I, like many, am busy making lists of tasks to do, groceries to get and items to pick up before the big day. I am truly blessed this year as I prepare for family and friends because I can do so free of the tremors which plagued me for years from my Parkinson’s. I feel so thankful to be able to cut veggies, prepare the turkey and set the table with fine china without the constant movement from my tremors. Seven months have passed since I had the deep brain stimulation process and every day I feel thankful for this life-changing procedure. I am thankful.
Also, as many of my readers know, my husband has been treated for bladder cancer and recently underwent a triple cardiac bypass. Although, I wish he did not have to endure either of these conditions, I am thrilled with how well he is doing. I am so thankful that he is responding to the immunotherapy for the cancer and that he underwent the bypass so well. An eventful year, but one that resulted in such wonderful results. I am thankful.
Additionally, I am reminded that we are truly blessed with an outstanding family who has been with us throughout our health care journeys this year. Our adult children were there for us in sooooo many ways. How very thankful I am for their love and support as they gave their time and effort so freely. I am thankful.
Finally, I am amazed at the overwhelming number of friends and neighbors whose acts of kindness sustained us throughout the year. The meals, the flowers, the cards, the good wishes and genuine love and care that everyone sent our way were so helpful and truly appreciated. I am thankful.
This year, as we bow our head at the Thanksgiving table, I will be thanking God for all of the many blessings bestowed on us this year: a “new” brain, a refurnished heart, a fabulous family and an abundance of loving friends. I am thankful. Amen
