Thank you readers for asking where I have been and how I am doing. I still receive comments from previous postings that I wrote several years ago.
So a quick update: as many of you know if you followed my last posts in 2022 and 2023, I had the Deep Brain Stimulation procedure at Duke University Hospital in the spring of 2022, and am pleased to say it has radically decreased my Parkinson’s symptoms and vastly improved my quality of life. Note that DBS does not cure this chronic disease, however, it does make the little things in life enjoyable again. The difference is best illustrated by something that happened today. Less than two years ago, I could no longer hold a pen or write my name. This afternoon I completed my first online class in a course on calligraphy!!!! Perhaps it is when something as basic as writing a simple word is taken away that the true ecstasy of penning your signature is a miracle. It is almost like losing your identity when you cannot even write your name and then gaining it back….you are your name.
So for today, I will simply share the hope and optimism I feel as a Parkinson’s patient for even greater things to come my way. I have much to discuss about the ups and downs (figuratively and literally) of the condition that so many of us have around the world, but that will come later. For now, I am going to bask in the delight of being able to hold a pencil, write my name and so clearly appreciate the moment.
Come back soon…….because I’M BACK!
