Colors

Colors

There is color all around us, but I especially am aware of the beautiful hues at this time of the year. Mother Nature is glorious in her ability to mix oranges with reds and greens with blues and yellows with purples. All of these shades reflect some type of change in the trees, bushes and flowers while displaying a kaleidoscope of colors to the world.

I sometimes wonder what our lives would be like in the absence of color and I do not even like to go there. I am blessed with the ability to see and I never take this gift for granted. Yet, there are times when I stumble through the day without really looking up or around because I am too focused on a worry or a problem. My goal is to get better at soaking in my surroundings as I stroll through my errands and my chores and my routine and stop to truly take in the colors of life.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have included walking outside into my weekly schedule. Two to three times a week, I meet a friend and we walk around our neighbor. Although we do chat as we walk, I am able to still appreciate the changes we see each time we go. With the nights getting cooler, the tree colors are all bursting to get ready for the winter. They reflect this by changing from those extraordinary shades of green to autumn hues. And even though I see this every year, it is still magical to view it again and again.

A dear friend and I often discuss color from a decorative perspective and strive to find the correct shades for pillows and rugs and accents. We occasionally get stuck on deciding whether or not a particular tint of blue will go with the green rug. When I step back and think about it, I am able to look beyond my room inside and glance outside. Right there in my backyard, I find all shades of blues, greens, lilacs and whites, just to name a few. And I realize that colors work together when they please our eyes. I cannot picture Mother Nature holding a color wheel and agonizing over the exact tint of grey or pink. Maybe I need to take a lesson from this and follow what nature shows daily. Colors are beautiful, enjoy them all.
