Comfort Pets
If you are a pet owner you already know the comfort that an animal can offer. We have two yellow labs that we rescued. Sally is the older one, going on eleven years old. Sadie is seven. They are not classified as service dogs, but they provide comfort in so many ways.
Our labs give unconditional love. They are welcoming when I come home, wagging their tails and seeking a pat on the head or a rub behind the ear. They are so happy to see me (or anyone) and give an overwhelming greeting regardless of how long I have been away. Their level of enthusiasm makes me feel happy and energetic even when I come home “dog-tired.”
As I go upstairs to change into my lounge clothes (code for pjs), my pups follow, They don’t care that I will only be upstairs for a few minutes, they just want to be with me. So they jump on the bed and get settled in making a nest with the comforter and pillows, and I tell them that I am heading downstairs. And here they come. Oops, I forget something, so back up the stairs I go and so do they. This time, they just wait in the hallway knowing that we all will be going down the stairs again. Yup, I go first. They follow in sync. Downstairs we all go again. Phew, now I am really tired.
Time for a cup of tea and maybe a quick nap for me. One lab hops on the loveseat right next to me and falls asleep immediately. The other lab scrunches in between the coffee table and loveseat, lying on the rug also right next to me. She falls asleep too. Soon all three blonde girls (two four-footed ones) are napping and enjoying each other’s comfort. Ah, life is good.
